A WORLD OF OPPORTUNITY AWAITS YOU ON HESPERIDES COLONY, GATEWAY TO THE COREWARD FRONTIER!
Brought to you by Her Divine Imperial Majesty's Ministry of Colonization and the Hesperides Colony Chamber of Commerce
Whatever you're looking for, Hesperides has it! From modern urban living in cosmopolitan spaceport cities, quiet rural towns, or the challenges of frontier life, you can find it on Hesperides.
This world is booming, but Her Divine Imperial Majesty needs your help if humanity is to continue expanding the Coreward Frontier! With its new spaceports fully online, Hesperides is now positioned to become the key in that expansion. Skilled technicians and engineers are needed to build more infrastructure on the ground, expand the shipyards in orbit, and to maintain the mighty orbital fortresses of Hesperides Skywatch.
There's plenty of work in other fields as well. Farmers, ranchers, gardeners, botanists, tradesmen, and entrepreneurs are needed, along with all the countless jobs that keep any town, city, spaceport, or habitat humming. Let’s start with a tour!
NEW BRECON
For winter sports enthusiasts, nothing can match the ski slopes in New Brecon, which have hosted the Imperial Olympiad Winter Games. Ski beneath the glorious auroras that light up the long polar nights before retiring to an ultra-modern ski lodge for mulled wine or perhaps hot cider made with the famous Hesperides Golden apples as you soak away your cares in first-class hot springs.
New Brecon also hosts the prestigious Hesperides Defense Force's Cold Weather and Mountaineering school. For those of you with an eye on permanent assignment to Her Majesty's Own, earning your Edelweiss in that tough school is a great way to prove your stuff to the Commonwealth Imperial Services. The HDF provides a limited number of slots for non-Hesperides citizens and competition for those is fierce, so be ready to bring your all.
Hesperides Colony's long year and pronounced axial tilt make for a long winter, with nine months of polar night above the fortieth parallel, but you can always hop on the Hachikō-Sowell Magway and zip south to warmer, sunny climes in comfort and style. This underground rail network is a triumph of modern engineering and the colonists indomitable determination to develop their world.
THE NEW VERMONT PREFECTURE
The first stop is the New Vermont Prefecture, where rolling, wooded hills are a showcase of successful Terran-xeno biome integration. As the snows recede in late winter, the sap begins to flow and you can sample sweet maple sugar rivaled only by that from the groves on New Kyoto.
This is also where the hardy Hesperides Golden apples thrive. Flavorful, juicy apples that are a treat by themselves, and are used to produce the signature brandy served in the Imperial Residence. You yourself can now sample the favorite brandy of Her Divine Imperial Majesty, Daughter of Heaven and Mother of Humanity, may She reign ten thousand years.
If you're interested in hunting big game, then the New Vermont Grumper Bear is ready to challenge your nerve and skill. Hesperides Colony’s near-Pleistocene climate favors big animals, the likes of which could hold their own against ancient Terra's wooly mammoths and other mega-fauna. Imagine all the worst qualities of a grizzly bear and a wild boar packed into several thousand kilos of angry beast and be sure to bring enough gun!
We strongly advise against attempting a solo hunt, use only experienced game guides with extensive references. The tough but friendly colonists will be happy to guide you safely through a challenging and rewarding hunt, and you could even make a tidy profit given the tremendous demand for grumper pelts and meat.
Plenty of agricultural work is available in New Vermont as the orchards and maple groves expand. If the life of a homesteader isn’t for you, there’s always demand for people familiar with aquaponic and hydroponic systems that bring fresh treats to the table of every restaurant and home in the region.
WE’LL CONTINUE OUR TOUR OF HESPERIDES COLONY IN THE NEXT INSTALLMENT, TAKING YOU TO THE WILD BADLANDS OF NUEVO TEJAS AND QUIGLEY’S LANDING, THEN ON TO EQUINOX CITY AND THE GLORIOUS ARCOLOGIES OF COSTA DEL ASTRA, WITH SPECIAL ATTENTION TO BEACHES OF THE GLIMMER SEA WITH ITS BIOLUMINESCENT WATERS!
What is the word I am looking for? It's not antediluvian. I don't think the word has been coined yet. I've had a peek at Hesperides after the war brought on the Long Night. What a wonderful universe Mr. Pierce has created.
